Our team uses digital X-rays, a CBCT scanner, and other modern technologies to carefully evaluate the tooth and determine the right treatment approach. We explain what we find, review your options, and help you understand what to expect before treatment begins.

A root canal may be recommended when the pulp inside a tooth becomes inflamed or infected. This can happen because of deep decay, trauma, cracks, or other damage to the tooth.

Common signs that may indicate a problem include persistent tooth pain, sensitivity, swelling, or discomfort when chewing. During your visit, we use a clinical exam, digital X-rays, and, when appropriate, 3D imaging to evaluate the tooth and surrounding structures.

Treating an infected or inflamed pulp can help prevent the problem from spreading to surrounding tissues and bone. When appropriate, saving the natural tooth may also help maintain normal chewing function and avoid the need for extraction and replacement.

A root canal removes infected or damaged tissue from inside the tooth while preserving the tooth itself.

We begin by numbing the area and confirming that you are comfortable. The dentist then removes the affected pulp, cleans and shapes the canals inside the tooth, and seals the space to help prevent bacteria from returning.

Depending on the condition of the tooth, a crown may be recommended afterward to protect and strengthen it.

During treatment, you can expect:

• Local anesthetic and comfort checks

• Cleaning, shaping, and filling of the canals

• A temporary restoration or permanent crown when indicated

Mild soreness or tenderness is common for a few days after root canal treatment. Many patients are able to return to their normal routine quickly.

Follow the instructions provided by our team and avoid chewing hard foods on the treated tooth until it has been fully restored, especially if a permanent crown has not yet been placed.

After treatment:

• Take pain medication as directed

• Use a cold pack if recommended for swelling

• Choose softer foods for the first 24 to 48 hours

• Avoid hard or sticky foods on the treated tooth

• Continue brushing and gently flossing around the area
